Hidden Pockets: Storyteller Cardigan

The hidden pockets on the Storyteller Cardigan are worked directly into the cardigan. Once the pocket opening is created, the pocket lining is picked up and knitted upward, then finished and tucked inside the cardigan.

1. Create the Pocket Opening

Work the pocket opening as written in the pattern and place the pocket stitches on hold. You’ll come back to these stitches when you’re ready to make the pocket.

2. Pick Up the Stitches

Return to the pocket opening and place the held stitches back onto your needle. Pick up the stitches along the opposite edge of the opening.

3. Join in the Round

With your attached yarn, join the stitches in the round. The pocket lining will now be worked in the round.

4. Knit the Pocket Lining

Continue knitting in Stockinette Stitch, working upward from the pocket opening. The purple pocket lining will grow upward and become the inside of your pocket. Continue until the pocket reaches the length specified in the pattern.

5. Bind Off & Seam

Bind off all stitches. Using a tapestry needle, seam the bottom of the pocket closed with Mattress Stitch.

6. Tuck It Inside

Once the bottom is seamed, gently tuck the finished pocket lining inside the cardigan.

And that’s it! Tuck it in, smooth it into place, and your hidden pocket is finished.
